The Landmark
Moments of our history
Following the occupation of Rhodes by the Ottomans in 1522, Suleiman the Great founded a public kitchen (“imaret”) in the area of the mosque which bears his name. More rooms were built in order to accommodate the charity foundation needs; they were mostly used as warehouses and galleys. The mosque underwent some modifications and the altar arch was used as a bakery. Nowadays, the monument complex has been completely restored and hosts temporary art exhibitions, cultural activities, as well as private or corporate events.
